Utah Department of Transportation, November 2016 – UDOT has been busy preparing for winter weather and officially began the winter operations season on November 1.  Your Citizen Reports that were submitted over the course of the 2015-2016 winter season were timely and very helpful to UDOT meteorologists and operations staff.  Thank you for being a valued volunteer for the UDOT Citizen Reporter Program.

Your reports are valuable and help in many ways:

  • On important rural roads
  • In areas without traffic cameras or Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS)
  • For supplemental information that can help to verify meteorological models

All of your reports are utilized by UDOT’s Road Weather Operations meteorologists to gain additional information on the condition of the road surface as well as the current precipitation or cloud cover. Reports also appear on the UDOT Traffic app and website, helping drivers to plan their travel. Your volunteer data is also shared with the National Weather Service.  Please remember – never use the UDOT Citizen Reporter app while driving.  Thank you for your continued participation in the UDOT Citizen Reporter Program!
